Akermin, Inc. was established to commercialize a unique platform technology to immobilize and stabilize enzymes in polymers.   Enzymes can significantly increase the performance of industrial processes as catalysts that can function to improve yield and/or lower operating costs.  However, the inability of enzymes to withstand the extremes of industrial process environments has previously limited the development of transformational bioprocess applications.  Akermin’s platform immobilization technology can dramatically improve enzyme stability under industrial conditions such as elevated temperature and extremes of pH. This technology has been validated with Akermin’s first application, biofuel cells, which are currently being developed for the US military.  Akermin is developing a stabilized enzyme catalyzed CO2 capture technology that achieves transformational cost savings compared to current gas separation systems for large stationary plants such as flue gas, natural gas, industrial hydrogen, or cement plants.

The St. Louis IT Entrepreneur Network (ITEN) is an initiative of the St. Louis IT Coalition and Innovate St. Louis started in April of 2008 to be a catalyst for the emergence of a thriving and robust entrepreneurial community that creates successful IT ventures. ITEN provides connections, services and programs that help IT entrepreneurs launch successful ventures.  There is no fee to participate in ITEN’s programs.

ITEN's mentors have experience in all of the key areas that challenge the IT start-up. Many mentors have experience at the senior level in IT start-ups. Others have related expertise that gives them an invaluable perspective for what makes ventures successful.

In ITEN's Mongel (Mock Angel) Training companies pitch their deal to a highly-experienced group of mentors with particular expertise in launching and funding IT start-ups. Companies that successfully complete Mongel Training are more attractive to potential investors.

Large companies are searching for innovative technology and services to help them solve their problems. ITEN’s Beta Program prepares early stage ITEN companies to make successful matches with targeted corporate customers.  These matches can mean a quick start for an early-stage company.

ITEN holds numerous networking events. Some are open to the public, and some are for entrepreneurs and mentors only.
